Joanie's Happy Days Diner

Stop #48 Joanie’s Happy Days Diner is exactly as the name implies, a happy diner. The young man that worked behind the counter was extremely friendly and it had a typical diner menu. Burgers, sammies, salads, shakes, and they also offer breaky items. I had the cobb salad and it was good. Tasted fresh & was really filling. I look forward to going back and trying a burger & shake on a cheat day.

Pergamino Cafe

Stop #47 Pergamino CafĂ© was a huge disappointment. Went for a lunch meeting & no one liked their food. I had the turkey muffaletta sammy, it was dry, and the turkey was bland. I asked for no sun-dried tomatoes & it came with them anyway. Normally it wouldn’t be a problem for me to pick them off, but it was a hot sammy so the cheese (which there wasn’t enough of) melted all the ingredients together making it impossible to pull the tomatoes off without destroying the sammy. The only good part was the homemade sourdough bread, but even that wasn’t anything to brag about. I barely finished half my meal and the rest of the table was the same. Joey had the sloppy joe(y), which wasn’t sloppy at all. Jacob had the Santa Fe chicken sammy, and he said there was nothing Santa Fe about it because it was flavorless. Josh had the all American breaky- eggs, bacon, toast, and potatoes- it was average. Needless to say I will not be returning.

Kennedy's Irish Pub & Curry House

An Irish pub that serves Indian food? This should be interesting! Kennedy’s Irish Pub & Curry House, stop #46, might sound like an oxymoron, but some how it works and works well. I’m not a big fan of Indian food in general, but this place has it going on. Over sixty beers on tap, an extensive food menu, pool tables, tvs, and tons of space. Six of us dined together and ordered a variety of dishes to share. We had a couple of restaurant.com coupons, which decreased the cost of the bill, but the prices are already reasonable. For the amount of food we consumed $15 per person was a steal.
This is what we ordered:
  • ·      Vegetable Pakora
  • ·      Vegetable Samosa
  • ·      Chicken Tikka Masala
  • ·      Chicken Curry
  • ·      Chicken Korma
  • ·      Lamb Sagwala
  • ·      Tandoori Chicken
  • ·      Naan- garlic & regular
  • ·      Sheekh Kabab Masala Dosa
  • ·      Steamed rice

Everything was fantastic. Good heat, texture, and flavors. Shawn who is a big foodie was really impressed and said it was the best chicken korma he has ever had. Everyone was beyond satisfied & full by the end of the meal & we had enough leftover for four to-go containers. My faves were the veggie pakora: mixed veggies deep fried in chickpea batter, the garlic naan & the chicken tikka masala. Great place to go watch a game, have a couple of beers, and eat some delish Indian food or even order for delivery.

Reveille Coffee Co.

Stop #45 was supposed to be Rico’s, but it recently closed down, bummer because I love Mexican food. But as the saying goes, when one door closes…so the new door that opened on Columbus is Reveille (translated it means awake) Coffee Co. I loved this place. They have a small breaky/lunch menu and obviously coffee options. I had the chopped salad- romaine lettuce, peppered salami, hard boiled egg, provolone, cannellini bean, parsnip, carrot, and red wine vinaigrette. Great flavors & textures. Tasted very fresh & all the ingredients complimented each other well. I especially liked the little cubes of cheese & salami. I prefer a bit of a crunch in my salads and the carrots provided lots of that desired crunch. The only thing that would of made it even better was avo, but everything is better with avo in my opinion. Cool spot with several healthy food choices. Looking forward to going back & trying one of their sammies & the giant sea salted chocolate chip cookies I unwillingly resisted.

901 Columbus Caffe

901 Columbus CaffĂ© was stop #44. It’s a great place to grab a sammy or a salad and do some work since they have free wifi. However, the day I went it was about 100 degrees inside, not sure why since it wasn’t a really hot day in SF, so Josh & I sat at a table outside for our meeting. He had a sugar-free vanilla latte and the Gambino sammy- roma tomato, fresh basil, pastrami, red onion, and provolone. Josh’s review: “Two slices of authentic Italy grilled to perfection. The Gambino would make a mobster’s moll cry.” His usual response is, “It’s good.” So he must have really enjoyed his sammy. I had the Fillmore Blues salad- mixed greens, crumbled feta cheese, roasted pecans & dried cranberry with raspberry vinaigrette. It was good and would have been even better had it not been drenched in dressing. When will I learn to ask for dressing on the side? I would eat here again or at the very least have a cup of tea while doing some work.
